Will Airbus offer €1.8bn to Atos?

Airbus is working on an offer worth up to €1.8bn for Atos’s prized big data and cyber security unit, as the French IT services company seeks to restructure and cut its debt load. Atos announced on Wednesday that it had opened a due diligence process with the aerospace and defence company, confirming earlier reports from the Financial Times.

The parts of Atos that Airbus and Thales aren’t interested in buying include the company’s $6.99 billion infrastructure and data management business and its $4.38 billion business and platform solutions units. Those two divisions saw sales fall by 3 percent and 7.9 percent, respectively, in 2020.

French IT company Atos said on Wednesday Airbus had made an indicative offer of 1.5 billion to 1.8 billion euros ($1.64 billion-$1.97 billion) for Atos' big data and security (BDS) unit, briefly sending its shares up more than 10%.
